Pinewood derby

Pinewood derby was crazy this year!  This is the first time Tyson participated.  We are his scout leaders so we were very involved this year.  A little unneeded drama was that our ward leaders had a lot of miscommunication and no one got their cars until 8 days before the race.  Jason was starting a 9 day in a row work schedule, so the minute we got it, it was cutting time.

I oversaw the painting process.

And then it was race day!  Tyson's is the red and blue car.  It was named the "Rattler".  It had 2 snakes on the top of it.

 And they're off!

 They did multiple races and then took the scores from all the races to decide the winners.

 Tyson won 3rd place!!

He was super excited and proud of the work he had done.  Now for the drama:  Tyson actually got 2nd place!  The 2nd place boy had shaved his wheels which wasn't found out about until after the race.  He was disqualified and his mother threw a fit.  Come to find out they had just reused the Dad's old car from when he was in cub scouts.  I was sorry for the kid but he didn't do any actual work to have won 2nd place.  The second drama was, during weigh in Tyson's car was under weight. I had a friend bring Tyson because I was at the girl's last baseball game.  My friend called me and asked if I wanted to add any weight to Tyson's car.  I said, "Whatever" and a nice lady from our ward offered some of her putty to put on the bottom of Tyson's car.  Well guess who was 4th place to Tyson's 3rd place?  Of course the people who helped.  Thank goodness for the disqualification or there was going to be a brawl.  If that kid wouldn't have gotten a medal it was going to get ugly.  Of course we heard about it all over again on Tuesday, "If my Mom hadn't helped you I would have been 2nd place!"
